Taanishi aen Ishinihkaashooyen Li Pchi Bufloo? (What’s Your Name, Little Buffalo?) Youth Naming Contest
As we prepare to welcome new plains bison calves to Batoche in Spring 2026, Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) is inviting Métis youth to take part in the Taanishi aen Ishinihkaashooyen Li Pchi Bufloo? (What’s Your Name, Little Buffalo?) naming contest!
We’re inviting registered Métis youth ages 4–18 from across the province to help us choose meaningful names for the newest members of our growing herd. All name submissions must be in Northern, Heritage, or Michif French, Cree, or Dene.
Our Language and Identity Advisory Panel made up of Métis Elders, Language Keepers, Kihtêyak and Li Vyeu Moond will be selecting the winning names, so bring your best ideas, your language skills, and your imagination.
Selected winners will receive a $100 gift card and a special surprise bundle, along with the honour of naming one of our new calves!
To help spark ideas, we encourage youth and families to explore these language resources:
