Welcome to the Ministry of Lands & Resources, Agriculture & Environment at Métis Nation–Saskatchewan. Our Ministry is committed to supporting Métis citizen’s connection to the homeland as part of our cultural heritage. We focus on promoting sustainable land use practices, conserving biodiversity, reducing the impacts of climate change and preparing our communities for unavoidable impacts, and maintaining the health and resilience of our homeland. Through consultation, community engagement, and strategic planning, we aim to support our communities in the ongoing development of our relationship with the land.

Duty to Consult and Accommodate is a legal obligation requiring governments to engage with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples whenever Crown decisions may affect Aboriginal or Treaty rights. Its purpose is to ensure these rights are respected and upheld through meaningful dialogue, accommodation, and reconciliation.

Harvesting is a vital part of Métis culture and identity, rooted in the traditions of our ancestors who hunted, fished, and gathered to sustain their families and communities. Today, Métis Nation–Saskatchewan continues to protect and advance Métis harvesting rights to ensure these practices are respected, recognized, and carried forward for future generations.

The first-ever Métis Nation Climate Change Strategy was released in 2024. Created through a national collaboration, members of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Lands & Environment team were proud contributors to the strategy, which provides a roadmap to Métis-driven solutions to climate change through environmental stewardship and leadership.
