Welcome to the Ministry of Child & Family Services with Métis Nation–Saskatchewan. Our children and youth hold a sacred place in our Nation, and with that comes a sacred responsibility to care for them. In 2020, an Act respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, youth, and families, commonly known as Bill C-92, affirmed the Métis Nation’s right to govern itself and make decisions about child and family services.

From October to February 2024, Métis Nation–Saskatchewan conducted engagements with Métis citizens, community partners, and other stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives that will guide the creation of a child and family services Model of Care centered on Métis children, rooted in our culture, language, values and community priorities. Our goal is to ensure the wellbeing of Métis children and youth, honouring our sacred responsibility to them. This is a multi-year process that will take approximately five years.
Join us in creating a child and family services model of care that truly embodies Métis culture, language, and values—putting the wellbeing of our Metis children, youth, and families at the heart of it all.
MN-S Child and Family Services is wrapping up Phase 2: Developing Our Model of Care Engagements and moving into Phase 3: Developing Our Laws. In this next phase, we will continue working with citizens to refine our distinctions-based Model of Care for Métis children, youth, and families, while also beginning important conversations about what our dispute resolution mechanisms should look like to support future CFS legislation.
Over the next three years, MN-S will engage citizens, communities, and partners to shape our Métis laws and service models, leading to coordination agreement negotiations with Canada.
Child and Family Engagement Sessions
From October to December 2025, the MN-S Child and Family Services engagement team went out in the community capturing insights from citizens in a variety of ways to ensure all voices are heard. Feedback shared in these sessions will guide the development of a Métis child and family services system that reflects the unique needs of our Nation. These sessions have now ended.
