MN-S Citizenship Registry Processing Times

Processing times can range from eight to ten months from when all the necessary documentation has been provided.

Registry staff are available to help guide applicants through the citizenship process. MN–S Citizenship Registry does not provide processing time estimates on individual files. We will let applicants know of any documentation required to complete an
application.

Common Reasons for Increased Processing Times:

  • Incomplete applications: missing required documentation including but not limited to application forms, birth records, signatures, valid ID, change of name records and photos
  • Increased demand: more people are applying to be registered
  • Periodic application influx: increased funding opportunities for school, sports, housing, emergency supports, etc.
  • Increased general inquiries

What we are Doing to Decrease Processing Times:

  • Moving to an online application process, so we are better equipped to help applicants
  • Converting physical documents to digital versions to decrease research time
  • With permission we can access Alberta and Saskatchewan vital statistics records on your behalf at no cost
  • Making it simpler to apply online, while still processing faxed or mailed applications
  • Hiring additional staff to assist with the increase in applications
  • Communicating with applicants via email or phone whenever possible
  • Processing applications as they are received, and when all the necessary items are provided

The sooner all documentation is provided to the MN–S Citizenship Registry office, the faster the research process can be completed, and the sooner you will receive your Métis citizenship card.
