Medical Travel Assistance Program

For many Métis citizens living in rural, remote and urban areas, accessing necessary medical care can be challenging. The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Medical Travel Assistance Program (MTAP) helps registered Métis citizens requiring medical, cancer or dialysis appointments outside their home communities. The program offers support such as reimbursement of fuel costs, accommodation support and a healthy food allowance.

The purpose of the program is to serve low-income citizens and those with a high need. Income is considered when assessing program applications.

MTAP Guidelines and Policies

MTAP FAQ

What is the Medical Travel Assistance Program?

The Medical Travel Assistance Program (MTAP) provides MN–S citizens with transportation, meals, and accommodations to attend medical appointments outside of their home community.

What are the Medical Travel Vans?

The Medical Travel Vans are the newest addition to MTAP. MN–S has purchased a fleet of four vans to be used to support citizens utilizing MTAP, with two vans dedicated to transportation in the north and two vans dedicated to transportation in the south.

The Medical Travel Vans will provide Métis citizens with transportation from their home community to medical appointments in larger centres, and back home once their appointments are complete. This program will be continuously evaluated and revised to ensure it meets citizen needs.

What are the hours of operation for the Medical Vans?

Medical Travel Vans are scheduled to be in operation Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm, closed on statutory holidays. Advanced booking will allow flexibility to accommodate requests, specifically requests for accessible transportation.
