July 21, 2026 – Heartland of the Métis and Treaty 6 Territory, Saskatoon, SK
A land claim filed in 1994 by a group of plaintiffs, including Métis Nation–
Saskatchewan (MN–S) and 34 Métis individuals, could move forward now that
Métis Nation–Saskatchewan has completed the procedural steps required before it
can apply to the court to lift the stay order that’s been in place since December 23,
2005. Métis Nation–Saskatchewan intends to file its application to lift the stay
within the 4-6 weeks, and if successful, its application would allow the long-
standing Northwest Land Claim to proceed against both the federal and provincial
governments.
