Île-à-la-Crosse School Settlement
Information for Survivors and Families
The Court has approved settlement agreements related to the Île-à-la-Crosse School class action lawsuit.
The settlements provide compensation for eligible Survivors and may also provide compensation through estates or heirs in certain circumstances. The settlements also include funding for healing, wellness, education, language preservation, commemoration, and community initiatives. If you or a family member attended the Île-à-la-Crosse School, we encourage you to learn more about the settlement and review the eligibility requirements.
Key Dates
- June 1, 2027 – Deadline to apply for an Experience Payment
- June 1, 2028 – Deadline to apply for Abuse Compensation
- August 30, 2026 – Deadline to opt out of the class action settlement (meaning that you will not be able to apply for compensation from the settlements but will be able to sue on your own).
Who May Be Eligible?
The settlement includes:
- Survivors who attended the Île-à-la-Crosse School for educational purposes and were alive on December 9, 2003.
- In some cases, estates, heirs, spouses, children, siblings, or other eligible family members of Survivors.
