Gear Up for School Program

Métis Nation-Saskatchewan is proud to support registered Métis children attending Pre-K to Grade 8 with a backpack filled with school supplies according to their grade level though the Gear Up for School Program.

Registrations are limited — apply early to ensure your child(ren) receive one!

Applications open in June and remain open until the program reaches capacity or the end of September, whichever occurs first.

Eligibility Criteria:

Here’s what you need to know to qualify under this year’s program:

• The child(ren) must be an MN-S citizen or in the process of acquiring citizenship. Visit our website /citizenship/  for citizenship information.
• The child must be between the ages of 3 to 13 years old
• The child must reside within Saskatchewan.

2026 Update: As the number of registrations and citizens continues to grow, it is necessary to find ways to continue providing backpacks while staying within budgets allotted. Effective starting in the 2026 program year, Walmart gift cards will no longer be included in the backpacks. We understand the strain this may place on families, but by removing the gift card portion, we can ensure more children receive backpacks with the resources they need.
