Winners Announced: Meet the Newly Named Bison Calves at Batoche
Our new bison calves have arrived, and thanks to Métis youth from across Saskatchewan, they now have beautiful names rooted in our languages!
The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Language and Identity Advisory Panel, made up of Métis Elders, Language Keepers, Kihtêyak and Li Vyeu Moond, has selected the winning names from hundreds of submissions in Northern, Heritage, and Michif French, Cree, and Dene. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the youth whose names were chosen, and our gratitude to every young citizen who took part in the naming contest!
As part of a special series celebrating the herd at Batoche, we will be sharing photos and videos of each calf, along with the winning names and the youth who submitted them. These introductions will be featured on our social media channels.
Thank you to all Métis youth who participated. Your creativity, language knowledge, and pride in your culture help keep our stories and traditions strong, and now, they’ll live on with every step these young bison take.
